Werewolves do not pass their condition on through a diseased bite, but through a proud genetic legacy. Although werewolf alleles have never been thoroughly studied by a geneticist, lycanthropy is likely a recessive trait and it is prone to mutation: to this day the birth of a werewolf cannot be predicted by even the best seers of their kind.
Human fables paint werewolves as terrifying beasts out of nightmares, using them as mythological cautionary tales, but beneath the legends lurks a predator prowling on the edges of human society. Far from being lone monsters, their wolfish instincts cause werewolves to congregate in tight-knit packs, small groups that form the most important building block of their societies. And werewolves do have societies, they come together in warrior brotherhoods to fight the rapacious corrosion of the Wyrm.
Werewolves have their own legends. According to the sagas of the Galliards, long before recorded history, when werewolves still shepherded the human tribes, the Weaver went mad, spinning webs across all of creation and beyond, entangling the Wyrm in its nets. The Wyrm’s conscious was wracked by by the confinement of the Weaver and no longer a spirit of cleansing, it seeks to destroy all that the Wyld creates.
The Wyrm is present in all that corrupts, poisons, pollutes, and perverts. It lies in radioactive waste, embezzling CEO’s, and undead that stalk the night unseen by humans. The Werewolves are sworn by ancient oaths to fight the Wyrm wherever it is found.
